Scottish Young Firefighters show off their skills 09/10/2013
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Young Firefighters from Campbeltown, Kilmarnock and Dumbarton competed in a drill competition at Campbeltown Community Fire Station’s annual Open Day on Saturday, 21st September. Members of the public attending were treated to a re-enactment of the old Scottish Drill Competition by the Young Firefighters.
The first round saw the teams compete for who could ship a standpipe key and bar and run out a length of hose and attach an A type branch, with Yff Ciaran Norris (pictured below) coming first with an impressive time of 16 seconds.
The second and third rounds saw two and three person drills, with Grant Souden and Campbell Omay (Campbeltown) winning the two person and Blair Crossan, Aiden Montague and Calum Harper (Dumbarton, pictured below) winning the three person drill.
Not to be outdone, the local retained crews then pitted their speed and skill against each other in the two person drill. With the winner competing in a final showdown with the winning two person Yff crew; sadly on this occasion the Yff were beaten.
